Microneedling
Helsinki | Espoo | Kauniainen

Skin microneedling is a procedure where the skin is treated with small sterile needles.

Needling helps to improve the appearance and texture of the skin and reduce wrinkles and scars.

In addition, needling allows for a more efficient absorption of the desired serums into the surface layer of the skin.

Specific treatment for skin renewal

Microneedling is an effective, knife-free skin rejuvenation treatment that, among other things, helps activate skin renewal. It is also ideal for treating scars, liver spots and other pigmentary changes, for example.

The treatment involves making tiny micro-needle holes in the skin using a micro-needling machine with thin needles. Each hole made by the needle triggers a series of biological reactions in the body that begin to fill the puncture sites with new collagen and elastin.

Skincare serums applied to the skin through the micro-channels created are also better absorbed and thus have a significant impact on the condition of the skin.

  • for ageing skin (fine lines and wrinkles, “crow’s feet” at the corners of the eyes, sagging skin tissue)
  • sun-damaged skin (hyperpigmentation or “liver spots”)
  • scars (acne scars, pregnancy scars, surgical scars)
  • lines and furrows
  • enlarged pores
  • thin or sensitive skin
  • dry skin
  • thickened scarred skin
  • pigment changes
  • for revitalising and smoothing the skin
  • for the absorption of active substances into the skin

Before microneedling, the skin type should be mapped and the need for treatment should be planned for each individual client. For example, needling cannot be performed on inflamed, broken skin.

After the treatment, you may experience skin sensitivity to various sensations. The skin may also become red. These are signs that the microneedles have penetrated the top layer of the skin.

The holes will heal within 15 minutes and the skin sensitivity should disappear quickly. Normally the redness will also disappear within a few hours after treatment.

Your skin should feel normal by the next day at the latest.

  • Avoid touching the treated area for at least two hours after treatment. There may be bacteria on your hands that can cause infections.
  • At home, it would be a good idea to change hand towels and pillowcases.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 24-48 h, the treated area may swell. Swelling may last 24-48 hours. Protect the skin from the sun with SPF 50.

On the same day, also avoid:

  • sauna, infrared sauna and steam
  • swimming pool, chlorinated water
  • self-tanning products
  • make-up (24 h)

Frequently asked questions

The microneedling machine has narrow (0.2 mm) needles that make tiny micro-needles in the skin.

The micro-channels created in the skin allow the skin to absorb the skin care serums that are applied to the skin.

Mechanical microneedling uses a disposable hygiene module with a hygiene plate containing needles. The needles in the plate gently open the skin and allow the active ingredients to flow freely deep into the tissue.

The Bdr Medical Beauty needling treatments we use are virtually painless. However, the feeling of pain is always an individual matter.

Needling of the superficial layers of the skin is often well tolerated, and the procedure is only felt as a slight vibration of the skin. Deeper microneedling is felt more acutely on the skin.

Microneedling is not suitable for treating inflamed acne. However, it is a good treatment for small pimples, impurities or enlarged pores.

We also treat areas other than the face with microneedling, if necessary. Needling is ideal for treating pregnancy scars and back impurities, for example.

With microneedling, it is possible to make microchannels to a depth of 0.2-0.5 mm. For example, a more superficial needling is sufficient to treat pimples and blemishes, while a deeper needling is needed to treat scars and enlarged pores or for overall skin tightening, stimulating collagen production.

Visible treatment results can be seen immediately after treatment. The actual recovery time is 36-48 hours, after which the skin looks visibly smoother, more vibrant and youthful.

Microneedling is used to trigger the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. This process takes approximately 6 weeks to complete, meaning you’ll enjoy improved skincare results for weeks after treatment! But remember to keep up a good home care routine too.

One microneedling treatment takes about 45-60 minutes

Microneedling treatment is recommended in series of 4-10 times every 1-4 weeks.

When performed every week, serial treatment produces a more ideal and longer-lasting result.
