Chemical peeling
Helsinki | Espoo | Kauniainen

Chemical peels, also known as acid peels, are very effective for treating a wide range of skin problems. They give quick and striking results and renew the skin in an unprecedented way.

More vitality for your skin!

All chemical peels accelerate the natural regeneration of skin cells and the removal of dead cells, the stratum corneum.

Acid peels remove the excess, rough, lifeless layer from the skin and strengthen the dermis of the skin, giving it vitality.

The end result is clean and soft skin with improved texture, surface and colour. The appropriate treatment method – more or less intensive – is always chosen in consultation with the cosmetologist, taking into account the client’s skins needs.

  • treat your skin only with skin care products designed for that purpose
  • protect yourself from the sun (4-8 months, SPF 50+)
  • do not use a sunbed (during 4-8 weeks)
  • do not use saunas, steam baths or swimming pools (7 days)
  • do not remove flaking mechanically (peeling, tearing)
  • do not use active cosmetics (7 days)
  • do not do any intense sports – microscopic water cells form under dry skin (3 days)
  • do not remove hair from the treated area (7 days)
  • do not perform any cosmetic treatments (7 days)

  • The treatment may cause peeling (visible or invisible) of the surface layer of the skin.
  • Your own skincare actions after the treatment will affect the final result.
  • It is important that you use the products recommended to you by your beautician.
  • We cannot guarantee the results of the treatment, nor can we give an accurate estimate of skin peel times or discomfort.
  • During treatment, you may temporarily feel tingling or heat on your skin. This will pass in a few minutes.
  • Over the next few hours, your skin may start to feel a little tight; this sensation can last for several days.
  • For most customers, skin flaking starts within 48 hours.
  • It is impossible to determine in advance how much skin will peel.
  • The flaking process usually takes 5-7 days.
  • Depending on the peel treatment used and the quality of your skin, the following reactions are possible:
    1) Prolonged redness, irritation and flaking of the skin
    2) Dryness and sensitivity
    3) Severe allergic reactions in some rare cases.

Frequently asked questions

Treatment will not be given if you have any of the following:

  • broken skin (e.g. skin broken from shaving, too much trimming or other reasons)
  • herpes (unless internal contraceptive medication is started 2 days before the peel)
  • general illnesses (infections, fever)
  • isotretinoin medication
  • pregnancy

Depending on the type of skin and the problem, it is possible to choose a more or less effective method. The treatment method is always chosen in consultation with the cosmetologist treating you.

To achieve the desired results, chemical peels are recommended at least 4-6 times in a series, every 2-4 weeks.

Chemical peels use fruit acids to deliberately induce controlled and sometimes strong reactions in the skin. This is an essential part of the nature of this treatment.

The day after the acid peel, the skin may be swollen and red. On the second day after the acid peel, the skin may become brownish.

Dead skin cell sloughing usually starts on the perioral and nasal skin on the third day after the peel treatment.

It usually takes about 2-3 days for the skin to peel.

It is also entirely possible that there will be no visible or noticeable symptoms. This does not mean that the treatment has failed. Microscopic peeling will certainly occur after treatment. It is just not visible to the naked eye.

After chemical peels, normal skin reactions include redness, fever, swelling, burning, stinging, tingling, itching, severe flaking of the skin and a brownish colour.

The skin may also be sensitive to touch and skin care products or even water may sting the skin.

These reactions will pass on their own within a few days, and the skin should be treated during this time by moisturising with products advised by a cosmetologist.

There is no age limit for chemical peels, making it an excellent treatment for acne-prone teenage skin, for example.
