We welcome piercing customers of all ages, including children and babies. Our youngest customer was two weeks old and we are very used to piercing ears of very small babies.

However, it is a good idea for parents to discuss the piercing and any associated anxiety with the child at home beforehand.

We only do piercings for children under 18 years of age in the presence of a guardian.

Lovely earrings – quickly and safely

At Fenix, ear piercing is done with the Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing method.

Blomdahl has been developing medical ear and nose piercing techniques since 1985, and their procedures are designed to prevent the spread of bacteria, infection and inflammation during the procedure.

The jewellery is pre-mounted in a sterile cassette, so the device never comes into direct contact with the skin. Therefore, getting your ears pierced using this method is extremely hygienic.

In addition, the piercings are designed to allow the skin to heal optimally.

First, the skin is cleaned with a disinfectant and the place of the future jewellery is marked on the skin with a pen.

The piercing is made with a sterile earring placed in a sterile cassette.

All parts that touch the skin are sterile and have not been in contact with anything before the actuall piercing.

It takes about six weeks for the piercing holes to heal. The piercing earring should be worn throughout this time. The jewellery should only be removed if the hole becomes infected.

If the earring is replaced before the hole has fully healed, the risk of infection and allergic reactions increases.

After the healing period, you can remove the piercing and replace them with new ones. However, it can take up to a year for the holes to heal completely. Therefore, for the first year you should not be without earrings at all.

  • Use the ear piercings for 6 weeks after the piercing, so basically the healing time of the hole.
  • Only touch your ears with clean hands. Do not twirl your earrings.
  • Keep newly pierced ears clean and dry. Clean both sides of the ears thoroughly twice a day with liquid soap and rinse well with plenty of water. Dry thoroughly with a tissue or cotton swab. Do not remove jewellery while cleaning.
  • If you prefer, you can also use a disinfectant to clean your earlobes.
  • Protect your ears when applying hairspray, perfume, make-up, hair dye, etc.
  • Avoid swimming for as long as possible after the puncture. When you come out of the water, clean the earlobes with water and liquid soap.
  • Be especially careful when putting on or taking off clothes over your head to avoid jewellery getting caught on your clothes.
  • Once the fresh hole has healed (after 6 weeks), replace the ears with regular earrings with a thin pin. We recommend using Blomdahl titanium, silver-plated titanium or gold-plated titanium earrings.
  • Don’t be without earrings for the first year.
  • Only remove the earrings if the holes become infected. Redness, swelling, pain and/or itching are signs of possible infection. In this case, remove the jewellery and clean/disinfect the earlobe. If the earlobe is not better the next day, contact your doctor.
  • Do not wear the ear piercing earrings at all after the healing period. If you put them back on after a few weeks, when you have already worn a normal earring with a thin pin, the perforation may tear the hole again.

Please note that just like any other earring, a perforated earring can come loose and get lost. In particular, dressing, undressing, hobbies, games and play can tear the earring off.

If you lose your jewellery, you can buy a new one from us for 9 €. The piercing service does not include a guarantee of new jewellery to replace any lost jewellery.

Ear piercing for a child

We welcome piercing customers of all ages, including children and babies. Our youngest customer was two weeks old, and we are all very used to making ear piercings for very small babies.

For young children, we recommend that you use Emla anaesthetic cream, available from the pharmacy, on the earlobes for at least an hour before coming to the clinic. By this time, the earlobe is suitably numbed and the child/baby is unlikely to even notice the perforation has been made.

We will do the piercing, but we cannot, and do not want to, force the child to do so.

It is a good idea for parents to go over the ear piercing procedure with their child at home beforehand, so that the child is sure to be willing to have the ear piercing done when he or she arrives. It is also a good idea to discuss the child’s anxiety or fears at home beforehand, if necessary.

It is also good to know that, as our earrings are sterile and individually wrapped, if the jewellery packaging has already been opened and the child then refuses the procedure, the jewellery will become unusable.

We will always charge the full price of the service for the time allocated for ear piercing, regardless of whether the child’s ears are pierced fully, partially or not at all.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, they do. The piercing is done by “shooting” the earring directly into place on the earlobe.

Blomdahls jewellery is all sterile, individually wrapped jewellery, mounted in a sterile jewellery holder.

All Blomdahl earrings are designed to be as comfortable as possible to wear.

  • Care has been taken to ensure that the earrings are comfortable to wear and that the hole heals in the best possible way without any problems.
  • The earrings are small and lightweight.
  • The underside of the earring is rounded to allow air to enter the newly made hole.
  • The refined and understated plantings bring out the crystals brilliantly.
  • Protecting the tip of the earring is a small detail, but one that is of great importance.
  • Thanks to the protection, the earring will not irritate the delicate skin behind the ear.
  • At Fenix, we use medical plastic as the material for the earrings.

No, you can’t. Piercing the ear cannot be done with anything other than Blomdahl’s sterile piercing earrings.

No. Yes. A little bit.

Everyone feels the piercing differently. Some find the sensation a bit heated, while others find it like a mosquito bite.

Immediately after piercing the ear, the spot feels warm and maybe a little uncomfortable, but it passes quickly. Ear piercing is just one quick tap per ear. It hurts less and is quicker than a vaccination.

No, we don’t. We always make one ear first and then another one right after.

We do not. We only make holes in the earlobe, the soft part.

Piercing the cartilage is not piercing the ear, it’s considered as an perforation. An perforation is always done by the piercer, in a perforation shop.

Yes, we’ll do a new piercing. If the previous hole was in a bad spot, the new hole will allow us to look at a better spot for the jewellery.

If there is a lot of cartilage in the old hole (it feels like a pea in your earlobe between your fingers), you cannot make a new hole in exactly the same place, then we’ll have to find another spot for the piercing.

In the “old days”, back in the 90s, the rule was to always twirl the jewellery after pearcing, but that rule is now outdated. Nowadays, it is no longer advisable to twirl your earrings or touch your earrings in any other way, as this can introduce bacteria from your hands into the freshly made piercing and cause an infection.

And you don’t even have to twirl jewellery any more. In the old days, perforated jewellery was made of a different material, usually surgical steel, which contains nickel, among other elements. In those days, the piercing holes were more prone to infection, leaked tissue fluid and actually had to be twisted to prevent them from sticking. Jewellery could also be tightened too tightly with the fingers against the earlobe, creating a ‘closed germ pocket’ between the jewellery and the ear, where bacteria could fester and infection was easily caused. Blomdahl’s specially designed jewellery cannot be tightened any tighter thanks to the “stopper”, and the medical plastic does not cause allergies, so no unnecessary skin reactions should occur.

So no, there is no need, and no point, in twirling the jewellery. They should just be left to heal on their own. Keeping them clean and dry is sufficient treatment after a Blomdahl piercing.

For the first year, the earrings should be worn constantly, even at night, to prevent the holes from closing up.

Yes, an appointment for ear piercing is booked just like any other service.

No, but for under 18 year olds we will only make holes if a guardian is present.

Swimming should be avoided for about a week or two after the piercing. There is no need for a longer break from swimming. It is only recommended to avoid swimming when the pierced hole is very fresh and the skin surface is broken. However, the skin repairs itself very quickly, so there is no need to allow months for healing.

Natural waters are full of different kinds of contaminants, and pools are full of people swimming in them, each with their own ideas about hygiene. For this reason, we recommend avoiding swimming immediately after piercing, both in natural waters and in pool waters.

All our perforators are trained and use only sterile instruments to perforate your ears. The area to be perforated is always thoroughly cleaned. The piercing erarring itself comes in a completely sterile package and is placed on the piercing instrument, which is also thoroughly cleaned. All parts that come into contact with the skin during perforation are sterile and have not been in contact with anything prior to perforation.

Piercing the ears is not dangerous in any way, but there is always a risk of infection when the skin is pierced. However, complications from ear piercing are relatively rare. As long as the perforated area remains clean, dry and allowed to breathe, healing should be quick. Children should be reminded not to touch the earring with dirty hands.

The risk of infection is still there, despite all the hygiene, whenever the skin is broken. The world is full of bacteria, so with bad luck a bacterium can get into a newly made puncture and the skin becomes infected. It’s rare that this would happen, but it is possible.
