Facial lymph massage
Helsinki | Espoo | Kauniainen

Lymphatic massage treats the skin by supporting lymphatic circulation and activating the skin’s metabolism. It promotes the removal of waste products from the skin, reduces and prevents swelling and improves skin tone.

For the removal of swelling

Facial lymphatic massage is ideal for people who suffer from facial swelling or couperose, redness or dullness of the face, especially around the eye area.

Because lymph activates skin functions, it is ideal for ageing skin and for treating scars. It can also be used before and after facial surgery.

A facial lymphatic massage relaxes and refreshes

Facial lymphatic massage is a relaxing, refreshing and soothing massage for the facial skin. It is ideal for soothing the skin after, for example, a mechanical skin cleansing.

Facial lymphatic massage also enhances the absorption of the ingredients used in the treatment.

You can include a facial lymphatic massage into your facial treatment to replace the traditional facial lymph massage or have it as a treatment of its own.

Facial lymphatic massage is particularly suitable if you suffer from

  • swelling of the face – especially around the eyes
  • couperosa
  • sensitive or reddened facial skin
  • dull or poorly functioning skin

Because lymph activates skin functions, it is ideal for ageing skin and for treating scars. It can also be used before and after facial surgery. The most effective results are achieved with serial treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Lymphatic massage is a treatment that aims to promote lymphatic drainage.

Emil Vodder, a Danish doctor of biology, and his wife Estrid developed Vodder lymphatic therapy in 1930, and Vodder is considered the father of lymphatic massage.

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in maintaining the body’s fluid balance. It is the body’s second transport system, alongside the circulatory system, and extends to every organ and tissue in the body. Its role is to transport all the substances and fluids from the tissues back into the bloodstream that cannot be transported by the venous system.

Lymph is the fluid that moves from the cellular space to the lymphatic and capillary vessels. It consists mainly of water, proteins and metabolic products of the cells.

Lymphatic massage is a gentle manual pumping method. Its purpose is to pump lymphatic fluid into the lymphatic vessels, thus speeding up the flow.

Massage with the fingers or the whole hand creates an alternating pumping and suction effect in the lymphatic cavity. The aim of the treatment is to promote the flow of tissue fluid and lymphatic fluid and to enhance and support lymphatic circulation, thereby reducing swelling in the tissue.

When the lymphatic system is impaired, protein-rich fluid is trapped in the tissue and swelling occurs. The disorder that causes oedema can be caused by many different things, such as inflammation, trauma, surgery, radiation or congenital human characteristics.

Lymphatic massage works on the lymphatic system of the body and on the surface of the skin. The tissues easily store excess fluid and waste products. The aim of the treatment is to transport the fluid and waste products to the lymphatic system, where they are transported into the bloodstream and eventually excreted in the urine.

Contraindications for lymphatic massage include malignant tumours, acute skin diseases or inflammations, acute inflammations or diseases in the body, vascular blockages, severe cardiac dysfunctions, swelling due to illness, inflamed severe acne, kidney diseases, lymphatic diseases.
